The word yoga means “union,” “to merge,” or “bringing together.”
Yoga is far more than a set of physical poses or exercises.
Yoga is a sophisticated science (not a religion).
Yoga is a three-in-one mind, body, and spirit work out and work in.
- First, most commonly, yoga is regarded as a physical discipline that consists of postures (asanas) that strengthen, lengthen, and align the body.
- Second, yoga is a great mental discipline. Practicing yoga asanas helps you to develop a sharp and clear mind. Focusing inward while you are doing any asana practice or sitting still, and meditating will help you to clear off your busy chatters in your brain for what’s essential.
- Third, yoga is also an emotional journey. Have you ever torn or cried during asana practice? If so, it’s normal. We as human beings have many emotions and I believe joy is the core of every being. We suppress emotions for lots of reasons. Yoga practice allows us to release the emotions’ grip for our emotional health.
- Finally, while aspects of yoga philosophy and various yoga techniques have been incorporated into Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and other Eastern religions, yoga itself is Not a religion. Yoga practice will increase a deeper awareness of the world around you and help you to understand who you are.
They are so many different styles of yoga, but the goal is to help yoga practitioners exist in love, peace, and harmony with everything around them.
